Antigonish Boat Club
A Volunteer Led, Membership Supported, Community Boat Club
Under the latest provincial COVID-19 restrictions (Phase 3 re-opening) members are still able to access club facilities for outdoor activity provided that masking and distancing regulations are followed. Masks are mandatory outdoors for where a minimum distance of 6 feet cannot be maintained and where gather sizes exceed 25. This applies to all individuals aged greater than 2 years. Members on club property are reminded to respect physical distancing guidelines and understand that the comfort level of other members with respect to interactions may differ. If the club grounds are crowded, please use your best judgement and consider returning at another time.
To ensure our mutual safety, please refrain from visiting the Club if you have any reason to believe you were exposed to the virus or if you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19. Our mutual commitment will keep the club a safe and enjoyable space for all members this season. Precautions while boating or paddling are outlined in Transport Canada's guidelines for pleasure craft operation.
Mobile Sailing School
Each year the Boat Club hosts Sailing lessons for youths aged 8 to 14, provided by Mobile Sailing School instructors. We regret to report that these lessons have been cancelled for the 2021 season. Hopes are high for 2022.
Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP)
The Club hosts ever-popular SUP lessons each summer. In light of public health orders these lessons are on hold. If available, registration will be handled through the Town of Antigonish Recreation Dept.
Canoe and Kayak
We are hoping to offer Kayak lessons this summer. Please fill out our form here to indicate your interest.
The club will soon be installing a kayak launch platform to assist beginners in launching their boats. Stay tuned for further details.
Thanks to a Provincial grant the Club has upgraded docks during the 2020 season. A third section has been added and floats were replaced with an industrial plastic system that is more stable, more durable, and environmentally friendly.
Under Construction - literally! But it works pretty well with just gravel so far. Heavy boats aren't recommended at this point.
Small Craft Storage Building
With financial assistance from the NS Dental Association Community Grant, we will soon start construction of a ramp-side storage building for member's canoes, kayaks and stand-up paddle boards.
